Roothy - Westpoint Autos Ambassador

4WD Guru, Creek to Coast Presenter, 4BC Radio and Journalist

Roothy is the ultimate 4X4 guru and has been an active part of the Westpoint Autos Ambassador team for several years now. Currently working as a Journalist, Presenter, Road Tester and Bush Cook, Roothy is the perfect person to put our cars to the test and provide the insights into what these cars can really do.

From humble beginnings as a journalist testing motorcycles for Two Wheels magazine in 1986, "mostly because they had a shortage of people with licences", Roothy's career has only continued to grow. His cheeky style of driving, ability to keep an old truck running and comical bush cooking segments for over fifteen years of 4WD Action presentations have earned him a place in the hearts and minds of Australia's bush-loving demographic.

"I'm a workaholic. I can't imagine life without trying to kick a few new goals all the time." – Roothy

Ambassador Questionnaire

  Greatest Achievement/ Proudest Moment?

Being a dad for the first time. At age 38 it'd taken me a long time to settle down and realise there's more to life than me.

What does being a Westpoint Autos Ambassador mean to you?

I love being associated with people who tend to do things quietly behind the scenes to benefit the community as a whole. That's a Westpoint speciality, as much as the care they put into customer relationships. Life's about long term relationships - so's Westpoint.

Pineapple on pizza. Yes or No?

Only with ham, and that outrageous shirt with the palm trees all over it.

What's your favourite car to drive and why?

I love my old trucks and there's a 1950 Jag tucked in the shed that's pretty cool too. But my current favourite 'daily driver' is the latest Isuzu dual cab ute. Apart from being incredibly practical it's simplicity and strength really appeals to me. I've tested everything in this niche and this is my favourite.

  What was your first car?

FJ Holden ute with a 186 red motor and the disc brake front end from an HR Holden. Built it before I got my licence in the early '70's and painted it orange peel yellow with flames, with a brush. My mates called it 'the cop magnet'.

What aspect of the Westpoint Autos ethos speaks to you the most?

Building long term relationships with consistent good service. I like the fact that I've never had a customer say anything but good about their dealings with Westpoint. Makes it very easy to recommend Westpoint!

If you could join any past or current music group which would you want to join and why?

Rolling Stones of course, then I could live to be a hundred and still carry on like a teenager.

If you could drive anywhere tomorrow, where would you go and why?

I'd be off to Tasmania, as long as it's summer anyway. This is the prettiest part of Australia, loaded with history, awesome food and interesting places to stay. Plus the locals are really friendly.

What motivates you to work hard?

I'm a workaholic. I can't imagine life without trying to kick a few new goals all the time.

What's your favourite movie and why?

The Blues Brothers, because of the great music.

What's one fun fact about you?

I got my start as a journalist testing motorcycles for Two Wheels magazine in 1986, mostly because they had a shortage of people with licences...
